The biggest success in the sixties was the third place in allsvenskan 1967 with among others Inge "Golden foot" Danielsson in the team.

But the year after became nevertheless tougher. HIF fell out of allsvenskan after that in the ending match loose with 1-6 against Åtvidabergs FF at Kopparvallen. It didn’t help that HIF during the season scraped together as many points as AIK, who managed to remain. The goal difference wasn’t enough for what reason division 2-play awaited.

Most people were prepared for a quick comeback in the big series. But it would take long, long, yes more exactly 24 years and eleven days before HIF again could call themselves allsvenskt.
